Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi on Saturday blamed the Punjab Governor for the “deliberate and inordinate” delay in clearing the file regarding regularising the services of 36,000 contractual employees in the state.
At a press conference here, he said: “I met the Governor and requested him to clear the file at the earliest. The Chief Secretary did likewise, but to no avail.”

The CM said it seemed the Governor was acting under pressure of the BJP. “If need be, I will not hesitate to stage a dharna in front of Raj Bhawan along with my Cabinet colleagues and party MLAs to safeguard the legitimate rights of Punjab employees,” he warned.
The Punjab Protection and Regularisation of Contractual Employees Bill, 2021, was passed during a special session of the Vidhan Sabha on November 11 last year to regularise the services of contract, ad hoc, work-charged and temporary employees with more than 10 years of service.
Despite several phone calls and text messages, The Tribune failed to get any response from the Governor’s press secretary.
The CM reiterated that the big fish involved in the drug mafia would be dealt with severely as per the law.
