To improve the reach and quality of technical education, the Punjab Government is bringing in legislation in the coming Budget session to set up two state campus universities in Gurdaspur and Ferozepur.

Besides, the construction work to set up Skill University at Chamkaur Sahib would be completed this year under the first phase after the IKG PTU, Kapurthala, sanctioned Rs 120 crore for the project, said Charanjit Singh Channi, Technical Education, Employment Generation and Cultural Affairs Minister.

Sharing new initiatives being taken in the field of technical education, he said the IIT-Ropar had been roped in to improve the quality of education at the state-run Shaheed Bhagat Singh College of Engineering and Technology, Ferozepur, and Beant College of Engineering and Technology, Gurdaspur.

With focus on Punjabi language, the department had translated technical education books into Punjabi. Besides, a bank of more than 25,000 questions in Punjabi language has been sent to the Directorate General of Training, Government of India, for setting question papers in Punjabi for students from the state. Earlier, the question papers were only in English and Hindi.

The minister talked about various steps like checking large-scale copying during the exams by installing CCTVs, improving enrolment in the government polytechnic colleges and industrial training institutes to 87 per cent, introducing dual system of training in ITIs and setting up of 19 new ITIs.

Meanwhile, the state government is set to celebrate the 400th birth anniversary of Guru Teg Bahadur from April 28 to May 1 on the theme of ‘Guru Teg Bahadur-Hind Di Chadar’

Technical Education Minister Charanjit Channi said the state had already released the logo for various programmes. Developmental projects in Sri Anandpur Sahib, Baba Bakala and Kiratpur Sahib are the part of the celebrations.
