The state government has come out with a new proposal to cover as many farmers as possible for distribution of DAP through cooperative societies.
With many primary agriculture cooperative societies (PACS) lying defunct, especially in Amritsar and Hoshiarpur, Special Chief Secretary, Cooperatives, V K Singh, today proposed that members of these PACS be catered to from the nearest working cooperative societies.
While these farmers would not get DAP on credit, they would have to pay cash to buy the fertiliser. However, they would be spared from buying DAP from private traders, who have been accused of selling these at higher rates and tagging other items.
