Governor Banwarilal Purohit urges Punjabis to unite against drugs, corruption

Governor Banwarilal Purohit led the state-level Republic Day celebrations in Patiala with a fervent call to act against the pressing issues of drugs and corruption.
The Governor paid homage to the martyrs and freedom fighters whose sacrifices paved the way for India’s independence. He underscored the importance of collective responsibility in upholding the principles of integrity and transparency in governance, urging citizens to actively support the government’s endeavours towards a corruption-free administration.
Purohit acknowledged the resilience and determination of Punjabis, drawing parallels between the historic struggle for independence and the contemporary battle against societal ills. He emphasised the pivotal role of every individual in safeguarding the youth from the clutches of drug abuse, stressing that the unity and resolve of the Punjabi community are indispensable in overcoming this formidable challenge.
The ceremony witnessed Purohit bestowing honours upon the families of freedom fighters. Distinguished individuals, including Padma Shri awardee Pran Sabharwal, were also felicitated for their contributions across various domains.
In Sangrur, Transport Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar unfurled the Tricolour.
In Malerkotla, Cabinet Minister for NRI Affairs and Administrative Reforms Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal announced that work on projects worth Rs 450 crore would soon be started so that residents of the district could lead a disease-free life.
