Gangster arrested after brief encounter in Tarn Taran
A team of the local city police and the CIA staff arrested a gangster after a brief encounter last night from the local Kasur drain. The gangster was identified as Yodhbir Singh Yodha, a resident of Aladinpur village. Besides being involved in other criminal activities, the gangster is believed to be the shooter in the firing that took place at the factory of an entrepreneur in the local Focal Point area on the morning of November 5. Yodha was much active in the area, seeking ransom and firing at victims who refused to oblige him.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Abhimanyu Rana informed here on Tuesday that Yodha was associated with the gang of jailed Harpreet Singh alias Happy Baba whose three members have already been arrested and one is expected to be arrested very soon, claimed the SSP.
The SSP said that Inspector Harpreet Singh, SHO, city police, and Inspector Prabhjit Singh, in-charge of the local CIA staff, raided a point at Kasur drain after receiving a tip-off. But under the cover of darkness, Yodhbir Singh Yodha fired four gunshots at the police team. In the retaliatory fire, Yodha received injuries in the leg and was nabbed by the police with a 9 mm Glock pistol and a motorcycle without a number plate. The injured gangster was admitted to the local civil hospital but was shifted to Guru Nanak Dev Hospital, Amritsar, after administering first aid. The SSP said that the arrested gangster was a history-sheeter and the exact number of cases registered against him is yet to be counted. Accused Jodhbir Singh alias Jodha has a criminal history as well that includes cases under the Arms Act, fleeing gangster from police custody and robberies.
