Five members of the team of the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) of the Punjab Police, led by DSP Bikramjit Singh Brar that eliminated two killers of singer Sidhu Moosewala in an encounter, are among the eight officials of the state, who are selected for Gallantry Award announced by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on the eve of Republic Day.

They are among the 26 officials chosen for the Central award by the MHA.

AGTF chief-cum-ADGP Promod Ban led the investigation in the Moosewala case and campaign against gangsters in which 951 have been arrested since April 2022.

Brar has got the seventh award for exceptional service, including fourth Gallantry Award. A team of the Special Operations Group (SOG), led by ASI Jagjit Singh, has also received the Gallantary Award along with team members ASI Rahul Sharma, ASI Baljinder Singh, HC Surinderpal Singh.

Three others who got the award in separate operations were DSP Dalbir Singh, ASI Malkeet Singh and late senior constable Mandeep Singh (posthumous).

Besides Promod Ban, AIG Intelligence-1 Swarandeep Singh will also be conferred with President’s Medal for Distinguished Service.

Similarly, four PPS officers DCP, Investigation, Jalandhar, Harvinder Singh Virk, Joint Director (Complaint Cell), Vigilance Bureau, Digvijay Kapil, DSP, CID, Mansa, Kuldeep Singh, and DSP, PRTC, Jahan-Khelan, Gurjitpal Singh are among 16 officials who have been selected for the Medal for Meritorious Service.

The remaining officials include Inspector Satnam Singh, Inspector Amandeep Singh, Inspector Sucha Singh, SI Gulshan Singh, SI Raj Kumar (CP Amritsar), SI Raj Kumar (ISTC Kapurthala), SI Sanjeev Kumar, SI Ramesh Chand, ASI Gurwinder Singh, ASI Balbir Chand, ASI Deepak Kumar and Platoon Commander, Punjab, Anish Kumar.

Meanwhile, three PPS officers SSP, Jalandhar Rural, Mukhwinder Singh Bhullar, Commandant, RTC Jalandhar, Mandeep Singh and DSP, Detective, SAS Nagar Gursher Singh, are among 14 officers, who have been selected for the Chief Minister’s Medal for Outstanding Devotion to Duty.

They include Inspector Harvinder Singh, Inspector Simarjeet Singh, SI Sukhwinder Singh, SI Bhupinder Singh, SI Major Singh, SI Jasjit Singh, SI Gurvinder Singh, SI Gurmukh Singh, SI Amandeep Verma, ASI Mohinder Pal Singh and senior constable Prabhdeep Singh.

DGP Gaurav Yadav, congratulating the awardees, expressed gratitude to the Central and state government for recognising the services of these officers and boosting the morale of the entire police force.
