Ahead of the farmers’ scheduled protest march to Delhi on December 6, Leader of the Opposition (LoP) Partap Singh Bajwa on Tuesday asserted that it was high time, the Centre accepted the genuine demands of the farmers.

“On November 19, 2021, PM Narendra Modi announced the repeal of three farm laws. At the same time, a panel on MSP was formed. Three years after the committee’s formation, the BJP has terribly failed to provide a legal guarantee on MSP,” Bajwa added.

He said PM Modi had betrayed farmers by not providing farmers with a legal guarantee on MSP as per the Swaminathan Commission recommendations. Modi opposed what he had recommended while being the Gujarat CM in March 2011. Besides that, giving MSP was also mentioned in the BJP’s manifesto for 2014 General Election.

“The Supreme Court-appointed Justice Nawab Singh (Retd) committee has recommended serious consideration of the farmers’ demand for legal sanctity to MSP. The high-powered panel formed on September 2, in its interim report, also said that debt on farmers and farm workers increased manifold in the recent decades,” he added.
