The police here have arrested four suspects wanted in an case related to the beating up of a youth to death and throwing his body in the Gang Canal on the night of October 12 near Panjawa village, 27 km from here.

Superintendent of Police Gaurav Yadav said that Angrej Singh, Sona Singh, Gurmej Singh Geju and Makhan Singh had been arrested in this regard.

On the basis of the report given by Raju, a resident of Pakki village, a case of murder was registered on October 13 against seven persons, some of whom have been identified as Sukhdev Singh, Angrej Singh and Chhinda Singh for murdering his brother Gurpreet Singh, a bike mechanic.

Raju said that on the night of Dasehra, Rinku of Pakki village came to their house to call his brother for repairing a motorcycle that had developed a fault at the Panjawa canal bridge. Gurpreet accompanied Rinku with a tool kit, but he could not repair the bike.

Meanwhile, another Gurpreet Singh (son of Mangal Singh), Gurvinder Singh and Raju also reached there. Rinku reportedly said that his girlfriend’s house was located near the bridge in a cluster of houses and all should go there to give her a mobile phone.

According to Raju, when Rinku contacted his girlfriend on the phone, she asked him to come near the cluster of houses, from where she would take the phone. When all of them accompanied Rinku to the specific area, the girl’s family came to know about it.

Raju said that the girl’s father Sukhdev Singh, relatives Angrej Singh, Chhinda Singh and others, who had come to pluck Narma cotton, started beating the youths with sticks and iron rods. While other youths managed to flee, mechanic Gurpreet could not run. He was beaten to death. The suspects then threw the body into the canal. It was found the next day.
