The Punjab Government Teachers’ Union (GTU) on Sunday claimed that many of the ETT teachers promoted to master cadre recently will have to forgo the promotion due to a ‘faulty’ criterion for the choice of station.

Nearly 400 ETT teachers have been promoted to the master cadre and the Education Department has scheduled the exercise for the choice of station on Monday.

After deliberations with officials, Sukhwinder Singh Chahal, president of the GTU, said instead of filling the vacant stations, the department wanted to first fill the vacancies in the Schools of Eminence followed by schools with high student ratio.

GTU general secretary Gurbinder Singh Saskor said many teachers who were retiring in the coming months or had some personal issues had to miss out on the promotion. “The department should have a realistic criterion for the choice of station. The department should reveal the data on how many teachers did not opt for promotion as lecturers due to the faulty criterion,” he said.
