The police claimed to have nabbed “big fish” with the arrest of Manjit Singh, alias Manna, and Lovejit Singh, alias Luv, along with three others. Cops seized 3 kg of heroin, Rs 5.25 lakh drug money and three cars from their possession today.

Key suspect active since 2008

Manjit Singh, alias Manna, 35, has been peddling drugs since 2008. On April 25, 2008, cops seized 15 kg of heroin and a revolver from his possession. In 2010, a case of possessing foreign currency was registered against Manjit. The Tarn Taran police seized 22 kg of heroin from him in November 2017. In 2021, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Mumbai, booked Manjit and Lovejit Singh, alias Luv, 33, for allegedly importing 260 kg of heroin. The Special Cell of the Delhi Police booked the duo in July 2021 for importing 356 kg of heroin.

Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said Manjit and Lovejit were wanted by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Mumbai, and the Special Cell of the Delhi Police in 260 kg heroin and 356 kg of heroin seizure, respectively.

“The duo was absconding since 2015 and had 12 cases registered against them. They got fake passports prepared from Lucknow on the address of Lakhimpur Kheri in Uttar Pradesh. The accused were also involved in hawala operations,” said the DGP.

Amritsar Commissioner of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said acting on a tip-off, the cops nabbed Harmanjit Singh, alias Harman, a resident of Dhunn Dhahewala village and seized 2 kg of heroin, an electronic scale and Rs 1.25 lakh drug money along with a car on January 20.

During interrogation, Harmanjit revealed that he received this consignment from Manjit, a resident of Dhunn Dhahewala of Tarn Taran, who was residing at Hargobindpura, Chheharta.

The police team raided the residence of Manjit and nabbed him on January 22. Then cops also arrested Manjit’s brother Lovejit and his accomplice Manpreet Singh of Dhunn Dhahewala village. The raiding team seized one kg heroin, an SUV, Rs 4 lakh drug money and a motorcycle from them.

Later, cops nabbed their aide, Kes Kaur, alias Kanso, a resident of Guru Ki Wadali, and seized another car. Bhullar said, “After taking remand, their backward and forward links will be established.”

Several cases under the NDPS Act, Arms Act and Aircraft Act have been registered against both Manjit and Lovejit.
