Abohar, August 25

Two youths have been held by the Sriganganagar police for duping people of lakhs by impersonating as astrologers on social media platforms.

Superintendent of Police Gaurav Yadav said today that Sagar Chawal (24) and Abhishek Bawaria (21) were arrested late last evening. He said three mobile phones and 10 ATM cards used in the racket have been seized. The SP said the suspects had maintained a total of nine fake IDs on social media, where they would post advertisements as astrologers. They used to identify themselves as astrologers on all IDs.

The police said one of Sagar Chawla’s mobile phones had five fake IDs on Instagram, and another mobile had two fake IDs. They said two fake IDs were also found on the mobile of Abhishek Bawaria.

The police said the duo had been ‘fooling’ people by posing as astrologers for about a year. They said the suspects could not present any degree or certificate in any discipline of astrology.
