A parliamentary standing committee has suggested that the state warehousing corporations (SWCs) of Punjab and a few other states should be registered by the Warehousing Development and Regulatory Authority (WDRA) and the matter should be expedited.

The observation has been made by the parliamentary standing committee on food and consumer affairs, led by DMK MP K Kanimozhi, in its report on the functioning of WDRA, which was submitted in Parliament on Monday.

The Punjab State Warehousing Corporation is not registered under the WDRA provisions as of now, as the regulatory body registers only those bodies that meet the standards prescribed by it.

A warehouse body has to have minimum net worth prescribed under the WDRA rules. The SWCs of Punjab and other states don’t have the required networth for registering their warehouses.
