Ashok Goel, president, Kotkapura Commission Agents’ Association, said, “Let the paddy procured by government agencies be lifted from mandis. Once the entire stock is moved to godowns and rice mills, there will be enough space for unloading basmati, which is mostly purchased by private buyers.”

A total of 3,97,680 metric tonnes of paddy has arrived in all mandis of Faridkot district and 3,55,703 MT was procured till Sunday. Of this, 1,89,681 MT (around 53 per cent) had been lifted, said Faridkot Deputy Commissioner Vineet Kumar. District Food and Supply Controller Raj Rishi Mehra said several agencies, including Pungrain had purchased 1,42,704 MT. No purchase has been done by private buyers in the last two weeks.
