Gidderbaha, August 6
Irate over the sewage overflowing on the road, the shopkeepers of Roshan Market in Gidderbaha have put up boards, outside their shops, appealing to the politicians to not come to them seeking votes. Notably, Gidderbaha is scheduled to witness Assembly byelection shortly. This seat has fallen vacant after three-time local MLA Amrinder Singh Raja Warring got elected as the MP from Ludhiana.
The political activity has already increased here and leaders of all political parties are trying their best to woo voters. However, the town is still sans some basic civic amenities. Residents have time and again raised the issue of sewage overflow and heaps garbage lying in every nook and corner, but nothing has been done to address the issue.
Om Parkash, a shopkeeper, said, “Our business is affected badly, but nobody is bothered about us. We have now put up hoardings and appealed to the politicians to not come to us seeking votes. All the political parties have failed to provide basic civic amenities to us.”
Meanwhile, another shopkeeper, Lovepreet Singh, said, “The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and Congress remained in power in the past, but these two political parties failed to solve our problem. Now, the AAP is in power and it, too, has failed to improve the situation. All these politicians just blame each other and do nothing.”
Recently, SAD’s Gidderbaha constituency in-charge Hardeep Singh Dimpy Dhillon toured some areas, where the sewage was overflowing. Similarly, PCC chief-cum-MP Ludhiana Amrinder Singh Raja Warring uploaded a video on his social media accounts showcasing the local municipal council chief and some councillors of the Congress trying to improve the situation. Further, some AAP workers had raised the issue of sewage overflow before Cabinet Minister Aman Arora, who is the AAP’s co-incharge for the Gidderbaha bypoll.
For the past few days, the residents of Goneana Road in Muktsar town are also lodging strong protest outside the Muktsar Municipal Council, raising the issue of sewage overflow in their locality.
