Faridkot: District-level special cells formed to identify addicts
Faridkot, August 13
To identify drug addicts and rehabilitate them by providing appropriate treatment in government de-addiction centres, the district administration has formed a district-level special cell.
In addition to conducting a large-scale campaign for awareness against drugs, a special move to rehabilitate drug addicts with the help of this special cell has been started, said Major Varun Kumar, SDM Faridkot.
In compliance with the orders of the High Court, this special cell has been constituted to create maximum awareness about the ill effects of drugs, under which this cell will remain functional at the second floor of the district administration complex, Faridkot. Every possible effort will be ensured to implement the campaign at the ground level, said the SDM.
Similar special cells would be formed in every subdivision. Steps should be taken to create awareness in people about the ill effects of drugs. Representatives of social service organisations, sports clubs, youth clubs and NGOs would be included in these cells, the SDM said.
Observing that the “country is facing a threat to its socio-economic fabric” by massive drug consumption, the Punjab and Haryana High Court had issued a slew of directions to the governments of Punjab, Haryana and UT Chandigarh to curb the drug menace, said the SDM. — TNS
