Gidderbaha, August 28

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann today inducted former SAD leader Hardeep Singh Dimpy Dhillon, considered a close aide of SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal, into AAP at a rally organised at Satta Bazar here. The CM gave hints that Dimpy might be the AAP candidate for the upcoming Gidderbaha bypoll.

Dimpy resigned from the SAD on August 25 saying Sukhbir was not declaring him the party candidate and that he might field Manpreet Badal from Gidderbaha.

Addressing the public, the CM said, “Dimpy is a diamond and I will put him in the right place. He should get ready for a bigger responsibility. I have agreed to resolve two major issues raised by him to ensure drinking water supply to every household and provide better sewerage. The tenders for these two projects have been floated and the work will begin soon.” About the proposed Malwa canal, the CM said, “The new canal will have a capacity of 2,500 cusecs. The farmers will be allowed to install water pumps in the canal.”

Earlier, Dimpy said, “Some people are calling me a traitor saying that I was in contact with AAP for the past about two months. However, the fact is that I spoke to CM’s OSD Rajbir Singh five days ago who then made me speak to the CM.”

Meanwhile, some anganwadi workers were detained near the venue of the event. Later, some anganwadi workers held a protest outside the Gidderbaha police station. “Our activists wanted to handover a memorandum to the CM regarding the substandard ration being supplied to the centres, but our colleagues were forcibly taken to the police station. We demand their immediate release,” said Hargobind Kaur, president of the All Punjab Anganwadi Workers Union.
