Kangana Ranaut moves High Court in defamation case filed by Mahinder Kaur
Chandigarh, July 8
Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut has filed a petition before the Punjab and Haryana High Court, seeking directions for setting aside a criminal complaint against her before a judicial magistrate’s court in Bathinda.
Among other things, she contended in her petition placed before Justice Meenakshi I Mehta’s Bench that none of the accusations prima facie established a case of defamation against her and the same was based on false and baseless allegations. Besides this, the impugned complaint had been filed with an ulterior motive and was an outcome of political vendetta.
The Bench was told that complainant Mahinder Kaur in her complaint filed in January last year had alleged that Kangana made a defamatory tweet during the farmer protest wherein “false imputations and remarks” were made against her. She also filed a complaint before the court seeking initiation of criminal proceedings for defamation against Kangana Ranaut as she had made false imputations. On the basis of the compliant, the court had summoned Kangana.
