Decide on ‘tankhah’ at earliest, Sukhbir appeals to Akal Takht
SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal, who was declared ‘tankhaiya’ (guilty of religious misconduct), has urged the Akal Takht to take a decision on ‘tankhah’ (quantum of punishment) at the earliest.
On August 30, Sukhbir was declared ‘tankhaiya’ by the five high priests while indicting him of religious misconduct for the controversial decisions taken during the party’s regime between 2007 and 2017 when he held the portfolio of Home Ministry and the Deputy CM. A decision on the quantum of ‘tankhah’ was kept reserved.
Sukhbir said in the light of the Akal Takht’s direction, he maintained a distance from Panthic, political and social activities ever since he was declared ‘tankhaiya’.
“But the delay in the Akal Takht’s decision further has taken its toll on the party activities, besides my personal assignments. I have urged the Akal Takht that a meeting of the five high priests should be called as soon as possible and pronounce the ‘hukum’ as per ‘Gur Maryada’. I reiterate to abide by all orders of the Akal Takht,” he said.
He submitted a written request with the Akal Takht Secretariat urging Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh to convene a meeting of five high priests soon and decide his case.
