Jagjit Singh Dallewal, convener, Samyukt Kisan Morcha (Non-political), who has been observing indefinite fast for the past eight days at the Khanauri border, today extended support to the people opposing discharge of pollutants into the Buddha Nullah in Ludhiana.

He also condemned the state government for detaining the youth and house arrest of several activists who were part of the ‘Kale Pani Da Morcha’.

Dallewal said if the CM Mann-led government does any harm to detained youth, farm unions would join the agitation and gherao the residences of AAP leaders. He said the state government was hand in glove with the persons involved in discharging pollutants into the Buddha Nullah.

“For the past 40 years, the people of Malwa are consuming water from the Sutlej. The polluted water from the Buddha Nullah drains into this river,” said Dallewal, adding that contaminated water had led to the rise in cancer and hepatitis C patients in Malwa.

Meanwhile, Dallewal’s blood pressure was recorded at 130/88 today. A member of the medical team said some tests had conducted adverse affect on Dallewal’s liver and kidneys. Dallewal said he doesn’t bother about the medical reports as the ‘kisan andolan’ can’t be weakened at this stage.
