Amritsar: Cross-border drug racket busted, 12 kg heroin seized

In a major breakthrough, the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) here has busted a cross-border drug smuggling racket with the arrest of a trafficker. The police seized 12kg of heroin, smuggled from Pakistan through a drone, from him.
The racket was being operated by US-based drug smuggler Sarwan Singh, who is carrying a reward of Rs 2 lakh on his arrest.
The police arrested Rahul of Naraingarh under the Chheharta police station here and impounded his car.
DGP Gaurav Yadav on Monday said Sarwan is the brother of drug smuggler Ranjeet Singh alias Cheeta who was arrested in May 2020 in connection with the smuggling of 532-kg heroin in July 2019.
He said acting on specific intelligence inputs that some associates of Sarwan had got a drug consignment through a drone from Pakistan and were going to deliver it to someone, a team of the SSOC, Amritsar, carried out a check and arrested Rahul after recovering 12 packets of heroin, weighing 1kg each from his car.
“Rahul was directly in touch with Sarwan and was supplying heroin across the state,” said the DGP while adding that further investigations were in progress. He said efforts were on to ascertain the total amount of narcotics procured by the accused till date.
A case was has been registered under Sections 21, 25 and 29 of the NDPS Act at the SSOC police station here.
