Muktsar, April 14

Wheat crop and stubble were gutted in fire at some villages of the district today, with the maximum loss recorded at Urang and Bhangchari villages. Short-circuit was said to be reason for the fire. Fire tenders from Malout, Muktsar and Gidderbaha were pressed into service to douse the flames.

Meanwhile, some parts of the district witnessed light rain in the afternoon. Chief Agriculture Officer Gurpreet Singh said: “Rain did not last for more than 15 minutes. We can’t suggest farmers to delay harvesting at this time of the season as there have been a number of accidental field fire incidents.” —
