CPs, SSPs to visit villages, mohallas: DGP Yadav

On Friday, Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav announced an important outreach initiative called “Sehyog,” aimed at enhancing community engagement. As part of this programme, Commissioners of Police (CPs) and Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) would personally visit villages and neighbourhoods to hold public meetings and gather firsthand feedback from residents.

The initiative aligns with Yadav’s ongoing ground-level tours to strengthen community ties. During a ‘Sehyog’ meeting organised by the Jalandhar Commissionerate Police, Yadav, alongside Jalandhar CP Swapan Sharma, shared exciting news: the government plans to create 10,000 new positions within the police department, significantly bolstering manpower. In the interim, personnel would be reallocated from other divisions, with a commitment to double the strength of the traffic wing.

Addressing the rising issue of cyber fraud, Yadav urged attendees to take advantage of the ‘Golden Hour’ — the crucial time immediately following a crime — by promptly reporting incidents to the ‘1930 Cyber Helpline’ number. This swift action is vital for freezing or marking funds that may have been transferred out of victims’ accounts by cybercriminals.

Yadav also visited the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC), which monitors over 6,000 CCTV camera footage throughout the city. He praised technology as a critical force multiplier, noting that the response time for Police Control Room (PCR) units has dramatically improved from 15 minutes to just five minutes.

Additionally, Yadav highlighted the introduction of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), which allows police teams to record videos of crime scenes for offences punishable by seven years or more using the e-Sakshya mobile app. He reported that teams have successfully documented evidence in 9,171 cases, enhancing the efficacy of investigations and ensuring justice for victims.
