Bathinda, July 22

Farmers under the banner of the BKU, Ekta Sidhupur, staged a protest in the city demanding release of compensation for the cotton crop damage due to pink bollworm attack last year. The protesting farmers gathered at a children park and submitted a memorandum to the Bathinda Deputy Commissioner.

Resham Yatri, a union leader, “This is second consecutive year when the cotton crop has got damaged, but officials of the Agriculture Department are barely doing anything to compensate for the damage to some extent. After cotton crop got damaged due to infestation, farmers ploughed it back in fields running into hundreds of acres.”
