Mohali, June 6
A Mohali policeman posted at the office of Deputy Superintendent of Police in Kharar has tested positive for the coronavirus taking the total tally to 128 in the district.
It is first case of a cop testing positive for the virus in the district. A 20-year-old constable Harshdeep Singh, a resident of Kurali and presently posted in the office of DSP, was to proceed for basic training course at Police Recruits Training Centre at Jahan Khelan near Hoshiarpur. As per protocol, any one proceeding for training is to be tested for Covid-19.
Disclosing this Dr Manjit Singh, Civil Surgeon, said the cop was to proceed for police training and as it is mandatory for the cops to undergo tests for Covid, his samples were taken and he had tested positive.
He said the cop has been shifted to Covid Care centre at Gian Sagar Hospital in Banur and added that they were tracing his contacts and source of infection. He added that they will take samples of all the officials posted at DSP Kharar office and the family members of the constable.
Kuldeep Singh Chahal, Senior Superintended of Police (SSP), said he had just received the information that one of the police constable has tested positive for Covid-19. He said he will be directing the Kharar DSP to get all his staff tested for coronavirus and cooperate with the health department.
With this, the active cases now are 18 and the total positive cases tally reaches to 128 in the district so far. A total of 107 persons have recovered while three have died of the disease.
