Congress mobilises party cadre for Punjab Assembly byelections
Chandigarh, August 29
With politics heating up ahead of the forthcoming byelections to four Assembly seats, the Punjab Congress leadership has started an internal exercise to mobilise party cadres.
With initial focus on the Gidderbaha Assembly segment, previously represented by PPCC chief-cum-Ludhiana MP Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, a meeting of party workers, district incharge and prospective candidates was held at the Punjab Congress office here.
After SAD leader from Gidderbaha Hardeep Singh Dimpy Dhillon joining AAP, the political scenario has changed in the Assembly. Warring has been assigned the charge of the Assembly segment.
A meeting for the Barnala, Chabbewal and Dera Baba Nanak Assembly segments would be held in a few days. PPCC chief Amrinder Raja Warring said party leaders had been assigned duties in all four Assembly segments.
Former Chief Minister Charanjit Channi and CLP leader Partap Singh Bajwa are likely to be incharge of Barnala and Chabbewal Assembly segments, said sources in the party.
