Sangrur, February 24

Seeking registration of an FIR in the death case of farmer Shubhkaran Singh (who died at Khanauri border on February 21), Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring and former Education Minister Vijay Inder Singla took part in a dharna organised here today by the Congress outside Police Lines on Sangrur-Bathinda main highway.

In the dharna, a sister and an aunt of Shubhkaran also participated for about 15 minutes. Both said they were seeking justice for Shubhkaran. Punjab Mahila Congress chief Gursharan Kaur Randhawa, Sangrur district Congress chief Dalvir Singh Goldy and Rahul Inder Singh Sidhu from Lehragaga also took part.

On the occasion, Warring gave a complaint — addressed to Sangrur SSP — to DSP Sangrur to register an FIR against Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij, Jind SP and other accused who are allegedly responsible for the “murder” of Shubhkaran Singh and causing injuries to many protesters at Khanauri border.

From the dharna site, Warring and Singla talked to Sangrur SSP over the phone urging him to register an FIR on the basis of complaint of Warring, submitted to his office two days ago and today.

Warring accused the state government of succumbing to the pressure of Union Home Ministry as it was not registering an FIR in the case “on the order” of the Union Home Minister.

Warring said that if an FIR is not registered, Punjab Congress would gherao offices of police officers throughout the state and would not allow smooth functioning of Punjab Vidhan Sabha.
