Congress candidates being intimidated: Channi, Pargat
Congress MP Charanjit Singh Channi and MLA Pargat Singh today alleged that the Jalandhar MC poll was being held in the most undemocratic manner. They alleged that their party candidates were being threatened so that they don’t campaign or contest the election.
Channi alleged that the claim of holding free and fair election was a farce. He said, “The AAP-led government is using all its departments, including labour, excise, police and the PSPCL, to intimidate Congress candidates. The candidates who have their businesses or showrooms in the city are being threatened through officials of various departments.”
Pargat Singh said, “Our ward No. 33 candidate Manmeet Kaur from the posh Model Town area was forced to withdraw her papers. The PSPCL staff went to the office of her husband, who runs a sports business in the city. He was threatened that his power connection would be snapped. He was forced to ask his wife to take back her papers.”
District Congress Committee chief Rajinder Beri said, “Four wards fall in the Rama Mandi area and police teams went to the houses of the Congress candidates to threaten them.”
AAP leader Deepak Bali said, “The Congress knows that it is losing the poll. Hence, they have started levelling allegations against us. The ward No. 33 Congress candidate realised that she could not win the poll and gave up. The allegation of threatening her husband is baseless.”
