The police have said Dr Ashu Banger has been arrested for allegedly forging documents in connivance with immigration agents. Before the arrest, he was working in a Moga private hospital as a medical officer.

Just before the Assembly elections, Dr Banger levelled serious allegations of corruption against the top AAP brass by releasing an audio tape of his conversation with Dr Rakesh Arora, husband of the Moga MLA, Dr Amandeep Kaur Arora, who according to him took Rs 30 lakh from him in the name of Delhi leadership of the AAP to arrange a party ticket for him.

Besides, Dr Banger also alleged that previously he also gave Rs 5 lakh to another AAP leader of Moga for getting a good position in the party organisation.

The audio tape of this conversation went viral on the social media at the time of elections. However, Dr Arora denied the allegations at that time saying that he would file a defamation case against Banger after the polls.

Moga SSP Gulneet Singh Khurana said, “Dr Banger has been arrested on the allegations of forging documents in connivance with immigration agents.”

He said, “An FIR under Sections 420, 465, 467, 468 and 120-B of the IPC has been registered at the Moga City-I police station against Dr Bangar, Hardeep Singh Brar of Muktsar and an unknown person.”

After arresting him, a team of the local police raided his house and carried out a search for about two hours. A separate raid was also conducted at Medicity Hospital, where Dr Banger worked.

Baljit Kaur, wife of Dr Banger, said the police found no documents from their house. “My husband has been made a target by MLA Dr Amandeep Kaur and senior leadership of the ruling party,” she said.
