Kuldeep Singh Dhillon, Barnala district president of the Congress, has been fielded by the party in the Barnala bypoll.

The seat fell vacant after AAP MLA Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer got elected as an MP from the Sangrur Lok Sabha constituency.

Dhillon, who is contesting the poll for the first time, is a brother of late Harinder Singh Seera Dhillon. Harinder was an active leader of the Punjab Youth Congress. His family runs a transport business.

Makhan Sharma, former Barnala district chief of the Congress, said he had extended support to Dhillon and the the party’s cadre would ensure his victory in a big way.
