Cong, BJP nominees file papers from Chabbewal

Congress and BJP candidates filed their nominations for the Chabbewal reserved seat today. Independent candidate Davinder Singh Ghera and Davinder Kumar Saroya of the Samaj Bhalai Morcha also filed their nominations.

Additional Deputy Commissioner-cum-Returning Officer for the Chabbewal (SC) Vidhan Sabha constituency Rahul Chaba received their nominations in the presence of general observer Tapas Kumar Bagchi.

Congress candidate Advocate Ranjit Kumar (52) was accompanied by LOP Partap Singh Bajwa, former minister Sunder Sham Arora, former MLA Sangat Singh Giljian and District Congress president Arun Dogra. Gurmeet Ram filed nomination as a covering candidate.

Notably, Ranjit was the BSP candidate for the Hoshiarpur reserved seat during the Lok Sabha poll held earlier this year. He has moveable assets worth Rs 16,45,650 and immoveable assets worth Rs 9,00,000, while his wife has moveable assets worth Rs 33,16,932 and immoveable assets worth Rs 12,00,000. Their two sons have Rs 9,709 in their bank accounts. Ranjit has liabilities worth Rs 1,16,925, while his wife has liabilities worth Rs 23,69,445.

BJP candidate Sohan Singh Thandal was accompanied by former Union ministers of state Vijay Sampla and Som Prakash, former MP Avinash Rai Khanna and former minister Tikshan Sood.

Prior to that, he opened his election office at Chabbewal. Thandal had been four-time MLA from Mahilpur and Chabbewal. He had been the CPS and Cabinet minister in Akali governments. He unsuccessfully contested the Lok Sabha elections on the SAD ticket earlier this year.

Thandal (69) is an agriculturist by profession and holds a bachelor’s degree. He has moveable assets worth Rs 56,68,397 and immoveable assets worth Rs 60,00,000, besides liabilities worth Rs 17,62,743. His wife has moveable assets worth Rs 7,51,502 and immoveable assets worth Rs 85,00,000, besides liabilities of Rs 4,76,577.
