Sangrur: Computer teachers’ strike enters Day 2

Members of the Computer Adhyapak Union continued to protest outside the District Administrative Complex in Sangrur for the second day today.

The union has been demanding shifting of computer teachers into the Department of Education from the Punjab Information and Communication Technology Education Society (PICTES). The protesters sought implementation of the Sixth Pay Commission. They also sought financial assistance for family members of 100 deceased computer teachers and government jobs on compassionate grounds.

Nardeep Sharma, district chief, Computer Adhyapak Union, said, “We have been teaching at the government schools for the past 19 years. The state government had regularised our services under the PICTES in 2011. Even 13 years after regularisation of services, we are not getting benefits of a regular teacher.”

He said they would gherao the residence of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann in Sangrur on September 5.

Sharma added that their meeting with Finance Minister Harpal Cheema has been scheduled for September 11 and in case their demands would not be accepted, they would intensify their protest.
