Former Rajya Sabha MP Avinash Rai Khanna today launched a scathing attack on Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, accusing him of misleading the public with hollow promises. Khanna likened Mann’s latest five guarantees to ‘unsigned cheques’, asserting that they hold no real value for the people of the state.

Talking to The Tribune here today, Khanna alleged that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government was resorting to gimmicks to divert attention from its policy failures. He said, “Before coming to power, Mann had made tall promises, including eradicating drugs and crime from Punjab. However, not only has the government failed to fulfil these assurances, but the situation has only worsened, alleged Khanna.

He claimed that the government’s inability to deliver on earlier commitments had left the public disillusioned, and now with new guarantees it was attempting to mislead voters again. “The people of Punjab are wise and discerning. They know how to use their voting rights judiciously. Mann’s guarantees are nothing more than a political farce, similar to handing out unsigned cheques,” he remarked.

The senior BJP leader further stated that AAP’s failure to address key issues in the state would lead to its downfall. “Punjab’s voters are aware of the reality and the municipal elections will mark the first step towards rejecting the AAP government,” he stated.

The municipal elections are being seen as a litmus test for the ruling AAP in the state, which has faced criticism from Opposition parties for its handling of law and order, drug issues and governance in the state.
