Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann flags off 410 vehicles to boost policing in Punjab
Phillaur, February 28
Nearly a month after launching ‘Sadak Surakhya Force’ in the state, CM Bhagwant Mann flagged off 410 vehicles for the Punjab Police from Phillaur Police Academy here on Wednesday.
The 410 vehicles include 315 vehicles for SHOs, 76 Tata Tiago vehicles for Dial 112 project and 19 vehicles for women safety scheme – Mahila Mitras.
Addressing 315 SHOs, the CM said for the first time, vehicle allocations have been prioritised from SHOs to higher ranking officers in an effort to ensure that SHOs were well equipped to uphold law and order in the state.
He also appealed the SHOs present to take cases against drug smugglers to the conclusion. “The complaints from the ground reach the SHOs first. To fight criminal elements, your vehicles, weapons and information have to be up to date. Law and order is a state subject – we won’t let it be imperiled.”
“We have to end drug menace. There used to be instances where police personnel received calls when they caught smugglers. But our government has stopped it. I exhort you to remain unbiased (in drug cases) and take them to the conclusion,” said Mann.
CM Mann also inaugurated 30-bed newly constructed Mother Child Hospital at Nakodar and laid the foundation stones of projects worth Rs 283 crore here.
