Tear-gas and water cannons used by the Haryana Police failed to stop farmers from marching towards Delhi as the farmers entered Jharmari village on the Punjab and Haryana border today. Hundreds of farmers proceeded towards Delhi on motorcycles and tractors this afternoon.

Equipped with enough ration, beddings, tents and tarpaulin sheets, the protesters marched towards Ambala from the Dappar toll plaza.

However, as soon as they reached Jharmari village, they were stopped by the Haryana Police. The farmers in order to cross the barricades clashed with the police that used water cannons and tear gas to disperse them. The farmers threw wet jute bags on tear gas shells rendering them useless. Some of the farmers also picked up tear gas shells and threw these back towards the policemen. After facing little resistance from the Haryana police, the farmers managed to sneak into Ambala.

Earlier addressing the protesters, Mehar Singh, vice-president, BKU (Sidhupur) and district president Manpreet Singh Amlala said they would reach Delhi at any cost.
