The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday criticised the Central Government for rejecting Punjab’s demand for Rs 1,200 crore to prevent stubble burning and accused it of discriminating against the state.

AAP senior spokesperson Malwinder Singh Kang said the Modi government had been consistently discriminating against Punjab. It had already withheld several funds, such as Rural Development Fund, Mandi Development Fund, and the National Health Mission Fund, amounting to nearly Rs 10,000 crore. Issues were deliberately being created in paddy lifting. “Now, they are also refusing to provide the incentive needed to prevent stubble burning. This is highly condemnable,” he said.

He added that the BJP claimed to stand with Punjab farmers, but when it came to helping them, the party shirked its responsibility.
