Candidates go all out to woo Gidderbaha voters
The Congress, AAP and BJP candidates are putting in all their might to win the Gidderbaha bypoll and have approached their senior leaders to visit the constituency to lend push to their poll campaigns.
The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) is not contesting the bypoll as the Akal Takht has forbidden party chief Sukhbir Singh Badal from participating in political activities after being declared “tankhaiya” (guilty of religious misconduct).
AAP candidate and leading transporter Hardeep Singh Dimpy Dhillon, who unsuccessfully contested the last two Assembly elections as SAD candidate, is mainly banking on his individual goodwill and the performance of the AAP government.
Wherever he goes, Dimpy says, “When I joined AAP, I asked CM Bhagwant Mann to promise me that he will never say no to any work relating to Gidderbaha. I just want to carry out development works in this constituency. A number of works have already started. Only AAP can ensure development of the area as it is in power in the state.”
CM Bhagwant Mann is expected to start a tour of Gidderbaha on Tuesday. AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal is expected to come on November 10.
Congress candidate Amrita Warring is largely banking on the development works carried out by her husband, Ludhiana MP and PCC chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring. The Warring couple is sparing no effort to approach every voter in the constituency. Some party leaders, including former MP Jasbir Singh Dimpa, Vijay Inder Singla, Kulbir Singh Zira are also campaigning for Amrita. Party leaders expect that some national leaders will also come to campaign for Amrita.
Meanwhile, BJP candidate and former Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal, who served this constituency as SAD MLA for four times in a row from 1995 to 2012, has changed his strategy recently. Earlier, he was focusing mainly on Dalit and downtrodden people, but now he is also trying to woo Jat Sikh and Hindu voters.
In his speeches, he mainly focuses on the works done by PM Narendra Modi. Manpreet further tells the public that being a former Finance Minister, he knows how to get funds to carry out development works.
