Bypoll result mandate for pro-people policies: CM
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Sunday termed the outcome of the byelections in four Assembly constituencies as a “forceful mandate” endorsing the pro-people and development-oriented policies of the AAP-led state government.
Speaking at an event at Punjab Bhawan after inaugurating a dining hall, Mann said that people approved the policies and programmes in the state.
“The victory of AAP on three seats has filled us with more humility and dedication to serve the state and its people. We have snatched these three seats — Chabbewal, Dera Baba Nanak and Gidderbaha — from the Congress. The people have approved the policies and programmes being implemented for their welfare and the progress of the state,” said the CM.
Responding to a question about the ongoing farmers’ agitation, Mann criticised the Union Government for its handling of the protests, urging a resolution through dialogue.
“Farmers are citizens of the country and they have every right to come to the capital. This right must be protected at all costs. The Prime Minister takes credit for mediating between Russia and Ukraine but hesitates to address the grievances of our farmers,” he said.
He also said that there was a need for constructive engagement over land acquisition for the Bharat Mala project. “While the process in Punjab is progressing smoothly, the Union Government must address the farmers’ apprehensions through dialogue rather than intimidation. Using force is both undesirable and unwarranted,” he added.
The CM further showed confidence about AAP’s prospects in the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections. He said, “Under Arvind Kejriwal’s leadership, AAP will again form the government in Delhi. We have already decimated Congress and BJP there and history will be made when we sweep the upcoming poll. The writing is on the wall — the people of Delhi are with Kejriwal.”
Meanwhile, inaugurating a new dining hall at Punjab Bhawan, Mann said, “The new dining hall at Punjab Bhawan’s A-Block will let the people of Delhi enjoy authentic Punjabi cuisine. Soon, the B-Block will also be upgraded and made available to the public,” Mann stated.
