The political scenario has totally changed in Gidderbaha Assembly segment in the past 24 hours.

First, the SAD on Thursday announced that it would not contest the byelections. Thereafter, former MP Jagmeet Singh Brar on Friday filed his nomination as an Independent from here.

Both these developments are being seen as fresh trouble for Congress candidate Amrita Warring, who is a first-timer and wife of Ludhiana MP and PCC chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring.

After nomination filing came to an end today, three SAD defectors -– BJP candidate Manpreet Singh Badal, AAP candidate Hardeep Singh Dimpy Dhillon and Independent Jagmeet Brar -– are in the fray. Jagmeeet and Manpreet have remained in the Congress as well.

While both Manpreet and Dimpy are trying to woo Akalis, Jagmeet is set to dent the vote bank of Amrita. Jagmeet, who has become MP twice, was once the mentor of Warring.

Though Jagmeet today claimed that he was contesting to win, yet those accompanying him to the SDM office said that they would create trouble for Warring’s wife. “Jagmeet and his brother Ripjit were about to join the Congress last month, but Warring — being the PCC chief — opposed this move. Now, we will teach him a lesson,” said an aide of Jagmeet.

Dimpy has put up his posters in traditional Akali colour –- blue. Further, in his photo on these posters, he is wearing a blue turban. Notably, AAP leaders usually wear a yellow turban.

Similarly, Manpreet is trying to cash in on the legacy of former CM Parkash Singh Badal by posting some of the latter’s videos and works carried out by him in this constituency. PS Badal had remained MLA from here five times in a row before handing over this constituency to Manpreet during the 1995 bypoll.
