Booster shot: Tepid response on Day 1 in Punjab

The response on the first day of administering of Covid vaccine booster shots was lukewarm.
According to the state Covid bulletin, only 6,305 persons came forward for getting the booster shot. In the first phase, healthcare and frontline workers, as well as senior citizens who received the second dose at least 39 weeks ago, were allowed to get the booster dose.
Apart from that, total 2.37 lakh doses of vaccine were administered in the state today. While the response to the booster dose remained low, the cases and deaths kept on increasing. The state reported 3,969 cases and seven deaths today.
Two deaths each were reported in Bathinda and Ludhiana, and one each in Gurdaspur, Jalandhar and Patiala. As far as the positivity rate is concerned, Ludhiana topped the chart with 48.44, followed by Bathinda (29.29), Patiala (29.22), Pathankot (29.09) and SAS Nagar (28.38). The state’s overall positivity rate also increased to 19.31, an increase of 4 per cent in a single day.
