Jalandhar, July 8

The Counter Intelligence (CI) wing of the Jalandhar police has arrested Simranjit Singh, alias Bablu, a member of the Babbar Khalsa International (BKI). Bablu is a key suspect in the murder of former terrorist Rattandeep Singh, who was shot dead in SBS Nagar on April 3 this year.

The arrest was confirmed by DGP Gaurav Yadav. He said Bablu sustained bullet injuries in both legs while trying to flee from police custody on the outskirts of Jalandhar.

The sequence of events leading to Bablu’s injury unfolded just hours after his arrest by the CI unit, said Yadav. He said acting on Bablu’s disclosures, a police team, under the supervision of AIG Navjot Singh Mahal, escorted him to a location near Wadala on the Jalandhar-Nakodar road. Bablu had indicated that he had hidden the pistol, suspected to be used in Rattandeep’s murder, at this site.

“On reaching there, Bablu attempted to escape by pushing a police officer, prompting the CI wing to open fire to prevent his escape, resulting in injuries,” said the DGP. Bablu was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
