Reports of Sunil Jakhar’s resignation as BJP Punjab chief have sparked a mixed reaction from the Punjab Congress. Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee chief Amrinder Raja Warring and Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Partap Singh Bajwa stated that the party would consider welcoming back disillusioned former Congress members on a case-by-case basis, emphasising the need for a ground assessment before re-induction.

Warring criticised Jakhar’s resignation, labelling it a betrayal of both the Congress and BJP. “He abandoned the Congress when they needed him most and now he’s doing the same to BJP. Jakhar shies away from struggles,” Warring said, attributing Jakhar’s political stature to his father, late Balram Singh Jakhar’s legacy.

Bajwa echoed similar sentiments, calling Jakhar’s resignation insignificant. “Jakhar lost relevance in BJP long ago when they chose Ravneet Singh Bittu, a Sikh face, to further their interests. Bittu aligns with BJP’s agenda, whereas Jakhar no longer held value,” Bajwa explained, citing Bittu’s appointment as Minister of State and Rajya Sabha nomination as evidence.
