Bhagwant Mann says perpetrators of post-matric scholarship scheme will soon be behind bars
Jalandhar, April 14
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Thursday exhorted people to uphold the spirit of the Constitution drafted by BR Ambedkar.
Addressing a gathering at a state-level function to mark the 131st birth anniversary of Babasaheb at Dr BR Ambedkar Government College here, Mann said nefarious attempts are being made to undermine the basic character of the Constitution drafted by the great jurist and statesman.
He said that unfortunately, these attempts are being made by some of our own people and thus need to be nipped in the bud for which people have to join hands.
The CM said Babasaheb had empowered the people through the Constitution by giving them the right to vote. He said that only due to this power, political giants like Parkash Singh Badal, Sukhbir Singh Badal, Manpreet Singh Badal, Bikram Singh Majithia and several others had been decimated by the people from the state’s political canvas.
Mann said democracy is a pillar of the Constitution and, therefore, any move to temper with its values would not be tolerated at any cost.
Drawing a parallel with Pakistan, the Chief Minister said though our neighbouring country had attained freedom a day before us, democracy has never survived there due to lack of constitutional democracy.
He said due to the visionary approach of Babasaheb, the Constitution and constitutional values have flourished in India, while on the contrary, nothing similar exists in Pakistan.
The CM called upon the people to contribute immensely towards making an ideal society by following the principles of equality and liberty as enshrined in the Constitution.
Later, interacting with the media, the CM categorically said that the perpetrators of the post-matric scholarship scheme would soon be behind bars. He said this is a heinous and unpardonable crime, adding that the culprits would not be spared.
