Jalandhar: Gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria’s aide held after encounter
The Jalandhar Commissionerate police arrested Kannu Gujjar, a key associate of notorious gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, following an encounter. The operation, which unfolded at Rampur Billran village in Hoshiarpur, led to the recovery of a large cache of weapons.
The development came close on the heels of the arrest of another member of the Bhagwanpuria gang, identified as Naveen, alias Kaka, after a brief encounter at Lajpat Nagar on August 27. That had also led to the recovery of one pistol and 1kg heroin.
Divulging details about today’s operation, DGP Gaurav Yadav said Gujjar was apprehended during a targeted raid. He later confessed that the gang was planning a major crime in Jalandhar and had hidden illegal weapons behind Hamilton Tower on 66ft road in Jalandhar.
“Upon reaching the location, the gangster tried to escape from the police custody by opening fire, using the pistol retrieved from the spot. The police team opened retaliatory fire to stop him from fleeing, resulting in gunshot injuries to him,” he said.
Commissioner of Police Swapan Sharma said the police seized eight pistols along with 55 live cartridges and eight magazines concealed at the spot.
