NRI Affairs Minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwala today asked the Haryana Government to conduct an inquiry into the assault on Punjab-based NRI family on the intervening night of July 25 and 26.

Dhaliwal said farm leader Master Boota Singh of Chimnewla village, Jalalabad, had gone to receive his wife Sukhwinder Kaur, who returned from Australia, from the Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi.

The miscreants attacked their car on Rohtak-Sirsa Road, said Dhaliwal, adding that the couple somehow saved their lives by hiding in a bathroom of a petrol station.

The minister said he had written to Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Saini to identify the culprits and ensure of safety of the NRIs who commute on this route.

He urged the DGP, Haryana, to intensify patrolling, especially during the night hours.

Directing AIG NRI JS Walia to register a Zero FIR, the minister also announced a reward of Rs one lakh for the driver of the car.
