Army jawan guns down two colleagues in Punjab’s Pathankot, arrested

Pathankot, June 27

Two army men were shot dead by a colleague following a verbal altercation which turned ugly at the 15th Guard army complex at Mirthal around 2.30 am today.

A senior police officer confirmed that Sepoy Lokesh Kumar (22) of Jharkhand shot dead Gauri Shankar of West Bengal and Suryakant of Maharashtra with an INSAS rifle. This weapon is the standard infantry weapon of the armed forces.

Police sources say all three were doing patrolling duties when the incident took place.

The police have arrested Lokesh. He was taken to the Civil Hospital for a medical examination by a police team and will be produced in a court of law tomorrow.

Lokesh, say officers, was trying to flee the city when the cops nabbed him at around 4.30 am.

An FIR under Section 302 IPC (Murder) and various sections of the Arms Act has been registered at the Nangal Bhur police station.
