Arhtiyas refuse to lift paddy from Phagwara mandi

Up in arms against the state and Central governments for the slow lifting of paddy from shellers to create space for paddy from the current season, arhtiyas on Friday launched an indefinite boycott of all work related to procurement and lifting at Dana Mandi, Phagwara.

They said the boycott would continue till some concrete action was taken by the government to lift paddy from the shellers.

The decision was taken at a meeting of members/leaders of the Arhtiya Association Phagwara, under the leadership of Naresh Bhardwaj, district president of the Kapurthala Arhtiya Association, and Kulwant Rai Pabbi, block president of the local association.

The leaders said paddy had not been lifted from the Dana Mandi due to non-availability of space at shellers. They had met the SDM in this regard and urged him to take swift action with regard to the lifting of paddy from shellers.
