Akal Takht calls for subdued observance of martyrdom fortnight
Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh has asked for subdued observance of the ‘shaheedi pandarwada’ (martyrdom fortnight) commemorating the sacrifice of the Sahibzaadas — the fours sons of Guru Gobind Singh — and their grandmother Mata Gujri.
In a message to the Sikh community, the Akal Takht Jathedar asked them to recite the Mool Mantar and Gur Mantar, and keep it a solemn affair.
The month of Poh, which starts in the middle of December, saw the martyrdom of the four sons of Guru Gobind Singh and their grandmother.
The martyrdom day of Baba Ajit Singh and Baba Jujhar Singh, three of the “Panj Piaras” and other Singhs falls on December 22, while that of Baba Zoravar Singh and Baba Fateh Singh and their grandmother Mata Gujri is on December 27.
The Jathedar appealed to the Sikhs to recite the Mool Mantar and Gur Mantar for 10 minutes at 10 am at their places on both these days.
He appealed to the
Sangat across the world to organise simple ‘langar’, without serving any sweet or special dishes.
Taking note of the chaos on the streets during the ‘shaheedi pandarwada’ in the past, especially by the youth, the Jathedar said any type of loud music or hullabaloo should be avoided while commemorating the occasion at Gurdwara Chamkaur Sahib and Gurdwara Fatehgarh Sahib.
