The administration claimed to have roped in office-bearers and activists of social organisations working for welfare of women, for spreading awareness about facilities available under Mission Sankalp at Sakhi One Stop Centre at Malerkotla.

An oath was taken during the concluding session of a seminar held at the centre established under supervision of senior functionaries of the Department of Women Welfare at Civil Hospital.

Beti Padhao Beti Bachao, Prime Minister Matru Bandhan Yojna, Free Legal Aid, Women Helpline 181, were cited among various aspects to which women would be sensitised as a part of women empowerment.

Deputy Commissioner Pallavi said efforts have been made to inform women about their rights to live a dignified life at home, working place and in the society.

“As most of the women are not aware about their rights in society and special facilities available to them under Mission Sankalp of the Union Government, we have called upon office-bearers and activists of social organisations to act as bridge between the administration and the beneficiaries coming into their notice during routine,” said DC Pallavi, adding that adequate arrangements have been made for comfortable and safe stay of victim women for five days at the Sakhi One Stop Centre. Male child up to eight years of age and a daughter of any age can stay with the mother at the centre during this period.

Nazir Mohammad, in-charge of the centre, said immediate medical care and psycho social counselling is provided to victims seeking shelter at the centre at any time or day of the week.

Appreciating gestures shown by volunteers of certain social organisations to provide secret information about victimisation of women in their respective areas, Nazir Mohammad claimed that the identity of the volunteers is kept secret for obvious reasons. Needy women were asked to contact either on helplines 112, 181 or 8872471100 to seek help any time.
