Accident victim turns out to be drug peddler, held with heroin
The City-1 police team led by Assistant Sub-Inspector Satnam Singh recovered 40 gm of heroin from a biker who was injured after colliding with a tractor-trailer near Gumjal village on the Abohar-Sriganganagar road.
The police said the biker, who was identified as Dharam Pal (35) of Guruharsahai, was returning from Sriganganagar. His bike collided with a tractor-trailer as he entered the Abohar area near the interstate barrier in Gumjal. Prima facie, it surfaced that being “drunk”, he lost control of the bike, resulting in the accident. As a team of Sadak Suraksha Force was escorting him to an ambulance, the biker threw a polythene bag outside the vehicle. The team collected the packet and found 40 gm of heroin in it.
The suspect was taken to the Civil Hospital at Abohar where doctors referred him to GGS Medical College and Hospital in Faridkot in view of his critical condition.
Meanwhile, a case under Sections 21, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act was registered against him.
Another team recovered 40 gm of heroin from a woman, who was identified as Rekha of Indira Nagari.
Sub-Inspector Lakhwinder Singh said the peddler was stopped and searched on the Johari Mandir link road. She has been arrested under the NDPS Act.
In another incident, a Sadar police team led by Sub-Inspector Davinder Singh recovered 6 kg of poppy husk from Pritam Singh of Fazilka at a naka near Sayeed Wala village. He was arrested under Sections 15-B, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act.
