A youth hanged himself in a rented apartment on the first floor of a house in Nanak Nagar on Sunday. Before taking the extreme action, the youth posted a picture of himself with his wife on WhatsApp and apologised to her on the post. The deceased was identified as Mohit, who worked at a printing press here. Residents of the area said Mohit solemnised marriage with his girlfriend just three months ago.

Ravi Kumar, who lives as a tenant on the ground floor of the same house, said he saw Mohit’s status on WhatsApp. He said he called his brother and both of them went to the landlord. He said they tried to call Mohit; however, he did not answer. He added that when they went to the first floor with the landlord, they saw his body hanging from the ceiling fan.

Ravi said two-three days ago, Mohit’s wife went to her parents’ house after her mother visited their place here. The city police assistant sub-inspector, Pappu Ram, reached the spot. He said the body of the deceased has been taken to the Civil Hospital mortuary for a postmortem. He said a suicide note was also found, adding that an investigation into the case was on.
